Cooking Sunday with Sarah…

Aside from birth and not messing up the life of my small child irrevocably, I am worried most about time management – doing everything I have to in a day. After my yoga class this morning, while simultaneously feeling great about working out in the early morning and realizing how much more flexible I need to be, naturally I built up an appetite. So I was off to the store for grocery shopping for the week. My baby girl made me crave sour foods in the beginning, and now I crave a little sweet after meals – kind of like one of my candy favorites “sour patch kids”. But I’m trying to be good though so I don’t have gestational diabetes….oh the things we have to watch!!!! But I digress….I was able to save over $40 on my bill – that ended up at $55. So that was amazing savings!!!  But savings yes…but what was I going to make for the week…now that is the true dilemma. If I bought everything on sale but didn’t know how to cook them….that would be a PROBLEM for sure!!!!

Now that I’m able to look at food again, and have the energy to cook, I have been having a love affair with cooking shows (along with my returning favorite: The Voice and Grey’s anatomy…and the soon Amazing Race…my gosh there are a lot of fun shows out). I am like a sponge. I would love to be able to do crazy amazing things like they do on Top Chef, but more instructional shows are more of what I need – Everyday Italian and Barefoot Contessa. I LOVE these shows!!!

But today I found: Sarah Moulton. Originally I remember her from America’s Test Kitchen – a show I also love to watch if I’m ever home to catch it. But she has been having a series for Weeknight Meals (http://saramoulton.com/weeknightmeals-season-1/) some using just 5 ingredients that I can cook at night, healthy and delicious and in a flash! And it doesn’t hurt to boot that she is hilarious – with funny lingo and verbage while she cooks, along with educating and teaching about the food and the best way to cook it.

She gave a great recipe for duck breasts with a yummy szechuan peppercorn sauce that I REALLY want to try – and she taught me that duck breasts are more lean than my staple: turkey!!!! (http://saramoulton.com/2011/09/sauteed-duck-breasts-with-apricot-szechuan-peppercorn-sauce/)

Like most I LOVE LOVE food and want to try and be the smiling mom with the baby cooking in the picture. But while I know that I need to let certain elements of control go and just go with the flow – until I have my little one I think I will still be a little worried on how I’m going to work, take care of a baby, and cook healthy meals all in the time constraint of a day – a dilemma I’m sure that many moms and families face. So please check out Sarah Moulton, her website and her recipes!!!!

The Bargain Warrior is going to be a momma!!!

Hello dear readers…I apologize greatly for being MIA as of late. Things have gotten crazy with being preparing to be a momma!! After dealing with “morning-sickness” that reared its head in the evening, working, and trying to stock up on sleep keeping up on my bargaining ways took an unfortunate but necessary back burner. But the sickness is gone, and evening is again my friend, and I am enjoying anticipating motherhood – so I’m back!!!!

Today the hubby and I went to Target and Babies-R-Us to go and register for our little girl’s (yes we’re having a baby girl!!!) baby shower (I confess to feeling guilty because I feel like not long ago we registered for our wedding). Thank God we waited until we knew the gender of the baby before going, because narrowing down to boy or girl is a must before looking. Things are all pink or all blue, and not too much yellow unless you’re going for Winnie the Pooh (I am not saying anything bad about winnie the pooh – my brother is named Christopher Robin – I needn’t say more…)

Mostly I’ve looked for sweet little clothes for my friends’ children, but I didn’t realize about everything that goes into baby care these days. I remember my mom taking care of my brother and I remember a crib, bibs, bottles, and blankets and the umbrella stroller that even I sat in. I don’t remember pack-n-plays, musical mobiles, electric breast pumps, video baby monitors, and car seats that are required through the age of 8 or dependent on child weight. Um yes…overwhelmed to say the least.

Like everything – the bargaining can continue with my little baby – and I think rightfully so because baby things are expensive!!!! When I go into a store now I don’t look for anything for me – it’s straight to the baby/infant section. I hear that is normal! There are a lot of websites devoted to children and babies, moms and parents-to-be, and I will share them with you, and as many tips that I come across – as many as I can!!!

Today’s website I found is: http://kids.woot.com/ – one deal, one day – always for children (and their parents). There is a blogging community and information on recalls!

If you’re like me and need a place to start because motherhood and parenthood is an entire realm of unknown – then sign up at www.parents.com and you are able to sign up for a free “American Baby” magazine that is a GREAT publication for new parents!

SO…I’m on the parenthood train….WOOT WOOT!!!!

Have beautiful skin AND help in the fight against breast cancer

I don’t know about your skin, but lately it seems that my skin has gone a little crazy. I don’t know what it is – the change of seasons, the change of climate, runaway hormones in preparation for winter – but whatever it is, where did my skin go and what is THIS in its place?!? Now I wish I could say that I usually have a blemish-free natural peaches and cream complexion, but I wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face. So today’s deal is for us ladies, and gentleman, who want a lovely complexion, but not break the bank. I had the BEST facial i’ve ever had the other day – a rare luxury for my birthday that a girlfriend of mine gave me and my cosmetologist recommended a Clarisonic Sonic Cleansing system.

Now I am in the dental field and recommend almost EVERY day the recommendation to use an electric toothbrush on a daily basis for teeth – and my reasoning is – we can never brush our teeth that quickly. So I asked myself the other day, WHY NOT for my face?? We wear our skin everyday – we put makeup on and sunscreen and everything else – why not use a “sonicare” like brush for our faces too? Exfoliate and really clean our skin – refine pores and reduce fine lines. Sign me up!!!

Today’s deal is courtesy of Dealslist (http://www.dealslist.com/)

http://www.skinstore.com/p-14307-Clarisonic-Mia-Sonic-Cleansing-System–Pink.aspx?&affiliatecode=cj_CS027&PID=934410

Where you can go to Skinstore and buy a Clarisonic Mia (pink) for $95.20 (usually $119) after using 20% off coupon code: TREAT20. AND FREE SHIPPING. If you need more facial/skin goodies, they also have a coupon: NEW30 for $30 off $150 for new customers.

If you buy the pink Clarisonic: $4 will go to the Look Good, Feel Good campaign fight against cancer to help those battling cancer or survivors feel good about their appearance as they manage their treatment.

You look good, you feel great, and you help someone battling cancer feel great too. It’s a win all around!!!
